The benefits of the Thermomix
From the Cooking It kitchen · 13 October 2016
The benefits which I have found since I have owned one:
TIME
It is like having an extra pair of hands in the kitchen which does all the work for you.
Meals can be prepared in little time and effort. Let’s you get on with something else whist the food is cooking (risotto ready by the time I get back from collecting my children from the pool).
It even washes itself, less washing up after a meal, one pot, a chopping board and a knife is usually all I have to wash up.
I am constantly amassed how much time it saves me.
Making bread about 20 minutes in the over and kneading 2/3 min with the TM.
Lentil Dhal 1 hour stirring with TM 20 min unattended.
Lemon curd 45 min continuous stirring TM 6 min unattended.
Peel 10 cloves of garlic and chop 2 seconds.
No time wasted changing attachments or other cooking utensils or washing them.
To a keen cook it will reduce time of sauces, doughs, etc
MONEY
I buy less pre prepared and pre packaged foods (bread, jams, butter, yogurt, tomato based sauces, ice-cream, stock cubes. My groceries bills have reduced by about 20% a week.
Saves power (electricity and gas).
Less kitchen appliances (scales, blender, grater, bread maker, slow cooker, steamer, coffee grinder, spice grinder, ice cream machine, meat mincer, juicer) i have spare space in my kitchen cupboards.
HEALTH
I control what goes into food, choosing to eliminate the artificial food additives and colours.
TM retains flavours and enzymes because of the temperature control during cooking by not over processing food. When cooking with traditional methods you can't stop the temperature rising and when it starts boiling either you stir or turn it down then it is too late. The food has already gone above its ideal cooking temp and the food has lost colour, nutrients and flavour.
It reduces oxidisation (gain of oxygen) when blending because it is fast and efficient. Purees, jams, soups, sorbets will have much more flavour, colour and are smoother.
Creamy soups without the need of cream, add some ground rice or lentils and you will have a very creamy consistency.
Cooking with whole foods with ease.
Steaming is the best and healthiest method of cooking (TM uses gentle steaming retaining colour, nutrients and juices). Great for weight consciousness and people with cardio vascular problems.
Cooking for special diets much easier gluten, dairy free, no e-numbers, no additives or preservatives
Medical conditions like difficulty swallowing, arthritis, Parkinson's disease.
CONVENIENCE
One set of blades does it all. Chopping, kneading, blending, emulsifying, steaming, pulverising, grinding, milling, etc with excellent results everytime.
One pot cooking with whole meals with the varoma.
Simple for people who can’t cook or do not like to cook.
No need for lots of pots, pans and mixing bowls.
ENVIRONMENTAL
Less energy used because it is so quick typically less than half than an induction hob.
Motor with heating system that work together to minimise the time required to cook food. Controlled, constant temperatures with less heat loss from a pan on a stove.
Reduces oven and hob use.
Because it only requires 1 bowl also reduces the amount of pots in the hob.
Less water, electricity and gas (washing up or dishwasher).
Retention of heat after cooking, which means no reheating.
Less food waste using whole vegetables including skins, rind of Parmesan, ripe fruit which would be thrown away for jams and sorbets, meat for stock, etc. Stale bread for breadcrumbs, herbs for sauces or pesto, houmous.
TM helps to reduce carbon footprint for all these reasons.
EFFORT
No stirring, wishing for hot or cold recipes.
Accurate cooking due to fine temperature controls.
Kneads for you (quick bread and pasta dough).
