Italian cooking class Bristol: fresh pasta being made at Cooking It

Italian cooking class Bristol

Classic Italian dinners, fresh pasta from scratch, and family and children's classes at Cooking It in Bishopston. Adults from £85 a person.

An Italian cooking class Bristol families and couples can both book: you cook, then you sit down and eat it together. We are an independent cookery school at 37 Gloucester Road, Bishopston, Bristol BS7 8AD, a short bus ride from the city centre.

Groups are never larger than 12. Ingredients, equipment and aprons are provided, and adult classes start at £85 a person. Cooking It was founded by Monica Worsley and has been teaching for about ten years. Paul, our head chef, teaches most of the European classes, and there is more than one way to do Italian here.

What you'll cook

The classic Italian class is deliberately not just pasta and pizza. You cook three classic dishes drawing on vegetables, breads, risotto-style dishes and gnocchetti, and pick up the Italian techniques and ingredients behind them. Fresh pasta is a simple dough shaped by hand, and risotto, gnocchi and breads are as central to Italian cooking as pasta is. That is the Classic Italian Cuisine Cookery Class, and it suits beginners and experienced cooks.

If it is a pasta making class in Bristol you want, book the Fresh Pasta from Scratch Masterclass. Everyone makes their own dough and turns it into lasagne sheets, tagliatelle and filled pasta. Sauces are made in pairs: a simple tomato sauce, puttanesca and sage butter, plus a roasted butternut squash and goat's cheese filling for ravioli. You take your tagliatelle home.

Who it's for

Adults first: the classic Italian class and the pasta masterclass suit beginners and experienced home cooks, and either one makes a good Italian cooking class in Bristol for a date night or an evening with friends. Adult classes are for ages 16 and over.

Families next. The Family Masterclass: The Handmade Italian Feast gives each family its own kitchen island, up to four people with at least one child under 12, and we do the washing up. For children, the Kids Italian Dinner for 4 is for ages 8 to 16 and sends them home with dinner for the family. The rest of the children's programme is on children's classes. Not sure which they would choose? A gift voucher lets them pick.
